2021 La Pelle 'Alluvium Vineyard' Cabernet Sauvignon St Helena
A showcase of Cabernet Sauvignon cultivated on a warmer site. The color is opaque with seductive aromas of dark cherries, black plums, warm spices, and crème de cassis. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, textured, and engaging. An inkling of sweetness is palpable from the French oak with layers of blackberries, graphite, and a tinge of holiday spices. A beautiful finish carried by the fruit concentration and dissolved round tannins helps to balance the natural acidity.

Again my favorite of the single vineyards from La Pelle, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Alluvium Vineyard features deep black cherries, moving toward cassis, with some distinct sage notes. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, there's great structure but also excellent ripeness and plenty of fruit, culminating in a long, velvety finish. This is super stuff at what should be a reasonable (by Napa standards) price.

From compacted volcanic ash soils, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Alluvium Vineyard is another wine from this estate with an incredibly complex profile displaying ample dark, almost black fruits, dried herbs, sage, and baking spices. It s a slightly bigger, richer wine than the Oak Knoll and is medium to full-bodied, with ripe, polished tannins and outstanding length. It's very much in the focused, elegant style of this label.
