2019 Prima Materia Kelsey Bench Sangiovese Lake County
Elevated at 1450’ on Mt. Konocti’s volcanic soils, this 2019 Sangiovese marries Italian heritage with Californian terroir. Aromas of tart cherries and bristly tannins lead to a textured palate, highlighting ripe acidity and robust California fruit. Hand-harvested, this wine demands bottle age to reveal its full elegance and complexity.
Small, minimalist, hands-on vineyard and winery, smitten with Italian wine 15 years ago. Minimalist winemaking thorough maximalist work. Hoping to grow, but as of right now no vineyard crews, no cellar crew, no bottling crew, just one very small operation
Wine Enthusiast
Roasted plums and cherries, light herbs and leather give this full-bodied wine plenty to appreciate. Moderate tannins support relatively rich fruit flavors, delivering good balance. The wine used 20% whole clusters in the fermentation and aged for 22 months in neutral barrels.
