2019 Grgich Hills Estate 'Old Vine' Cabernet Sauvignon Yountville
Celebrating Miljenko "Mike" Grgich's centennial, this limited-edition vintage stands as a unique homage to his legacy. Crafted from Napa Valley's 2019 harvest, characterized by delayed budbreak and moderate temperatures, this rare bottle reflects the culmination of expertise and heritage. Sourced from the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Napa Valley, planted in 1959, these grapes, certified regenerative organic, produce fewer but intensely concentrated flavors.
The resulting wine is a masterpiece, revealing complex aromas of blackberry, rosehip, and blood orange, followed by sweet cherry, blueberry, rosemary, and dry peat on the palate. With soft, round tannins, this limited-edition gem promises a luxurious and enduring finish, making it a coveted collector's item for enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
Decanter
Legendary winemaker Mike Grgich is winemaker emeritus here now, while his nephew, Croatian-born Ivo Jeramaz, manages day-to-day operations. Older vines supply the grapes for this vintage, commemorating Mike's 100th birthday. And what a tribute: heady dark berry aromas, grilled meat, coffee and baking spices meet succulent red and black berry preserves, tobacco, clove and violet notes. The palate is framed by striking tannins with real grip, finishing with mouthwatering acidity and a wave of brown baking spices.
