2016 Franz Keller 'Franz Anton' Spatburgunder
Volcanic soils around the Kaiserstuhl make an ideal home for the old vines planted at varying altitudes. The Keller brothers tap into the unique characteristics of each site to blend a Pinot Noir of tremendous balance and elegance. Aromas and flavors of cassis, cherry and flintstone stand out in turn while tannin, acidity and fruit all harmonize beautifully from first sip to flavorful finish.
Wine Enthusiast
Pristine, pure fruit abounds in this exceptionally fresh, invigorating red. Crisp red-cherry and -plum flavors are accented by crushed minerals, blossoms, and tobacco. Full-bodied and plump in mouthfeel, it's balanced by fresh acidity and a hint of ash reminiscent of the Kaiserstuhl's volcanic origins. Lovely already, it should gain depth and complexity through 2030.
