Château d'Yquem has few peers in Sauternes, and this is chief among them. The Wine Advocate describes a crisp and detailed bouquet that is remarkable for a wine imbued with such concentration and richness. The palate is unctuous on the entry, and yet that is barely noticeable thanks to the killer line of acidity. This is a vivid, extraordinary Sauternes that is difficult to fault." Great stuff defined!

Wine Advocate

The 2016 L'Extravagant from Doisy Daene has a crisp and detailed bouquet that is remarkable for a wine imbued with such concentration and richness. The palate is unctuous on the entry, and yet that is barely noticeable thanks to the killer line of acidity (exactly like the 2014 I tasted beforehand). The is a vivid, extraordinary Sauternes that is difficult to fault.

Wine Spectator

An enticing mix of plump pineapple, ginger, white peach and tangerine flavors, with a viscous edge to the finish. Shows the plumper, more forward style of the vintage but has admirable length and cut as well.

Decanter

A fine follow on from the excellent 2015, this is rich and succulent. It's the persistency and depth of flavour that's so striking in l'Extravagance. Fabrice and Jean Jacques Dubourdieu have been making this wine for many years, with their father Denis overseeing things. All the offices have now moved here from Château Reynon also. (JA)

VN91-94

Vinous

The 2016 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant is a gorgeous wine. A rush of coconut, passion fruit, mint and lime notes make a strong opening statement. Plush and unctuous on the palate, the 2016 offers notable depth and persistence. In 2016, the Extravagant is not quite as opulent as it can be, and while it is stylistically very different from the straight Doisy-Daëne, it is not meaningfully more complex. All that said, the Extravagant is one of the finer Sauternes of the vintage. (AG)
