2021 Haynes Vineyard 'Forgeron' Syrah Coombsville
An authentic portrayal of Syrah, this wine upholds the legacy of renowned Rhône Syrahs. The grapes undergo natural fermentation, gentle pressing, and maturation in neutral foudre. It achieves a captivating density and texture, steering clear of overripe characteristics. Certified Organic and Biodynamic practices underscore its commitment to quality and sustainability.
A historic transformation unfolds at Haynes Vineyard, now hosting a singular single-vineyard, single-estate winery by the Lawrence family, marking a milestone in its long history. Nestled in Coombsville, renowned as the region's crown jewel, the vineyard's unique terroir combines diatomaceous earth, volcanic rock, and the iconic Wente clone of Chardonnay. With roots tracing back to the late 19th century, the Lawrences, the third family to own the site, uphold its legacy. Planted in 1967 by the Haynes family, the oldest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines in Napa Valley thrive here. Three Chardonnay expressions—Vigneron, Forgeron, and Corazon—narrate the vineyard's tale, emphasizing its terroir, history, and the people shaping its character. Winemaker Nico Cueva and the team act as stewards of the land, embracing natural farming principles and low-intervention winemaking. This commitment honors and innovates Napa Valley's classic winemaking style, allowing the vineyard to shine as the centerpiece.
James Suckling
A bright and focused red with very fine tannins that give tension and energy. Blackberry, spice and some flint. Floral, too. Medium-bodied. Vivid. Drink or hold.
